Recently, the Year 11 Oxbridge group travelled to Oxford for an insight into University life and what applying to Oxbridge entails. The day started with a quick quiz on the university itself, followed by a brief talk on Oxford University. During this time, we learnt about the collegiate system that Oxford is based around, and were made aware of the tutorial system that is very specific to both Oxford and Cambridge.

Later we had two current students at Corpus Christi College talk to us about the intense interview process and student life at Oxford-we discovered that there is so much on offer! We then had a tour round Corpus Christi College one of the smallest colleges in Oxford, but incredibly beautiful and over 500 years old!

We then had lunch in the college dining room-think Harry Potter-and walked through Oxford to attend a talk at the Natural History Museum. Here we had the delight of holding cockroaches and finding out about dinosaurs. For Oliver, our Head Boy, he was in seventh heaven-he wants to be a Palaeontologist. For Hannah and some others not so great with “creepy crawlies”. How brave was Lauryn in holding the insect though!

This day really helped the Oxbridge group to decide whether or not they wanted to apply to either Oxford or Cambridge. Many came away with the determination that they would strive for a place at Oxbridge.
