Work experience is a vital part of the Year 10 Careers Programme as it allows students to gain first-hand experience of the workplace, develop key employability skills, and build confidence in a professional environment. It helps students make informed decisions about their future career paths and understand the expectations of employers.
This opportunity also supports the school’s commitment to the Gatsby Benchmarks, particularly Benchmark 6 – Experiences of Workplaces, which highlights the importance of every student having direct encounters with the world of work. Through this placement, students can connect their classroom learning to real-life contexts and better appreciate the skills needed in different industries.
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for finding their own work placements, promoting independence and initiative. However, they will receive full support and guidance throughout the process from their Form Tutors, Personal Development (PD) teachers, Head of Year, and the Careers Lead, Mrs Hellend-Carr, to ensure they secure a suitable and meaningful placement.
