Welcome to the Key Stage 4 Options Process for September 2024.

Year 9 Assembly: Options Launch
KS4 Options Handbook 2024-2026 issued to Year 9 students

WEDNESDAY 17 JANUARY 2024
Year 9 Parents/Carers Options Information Evening: 5:30pm – 8:00pm
Students, parents and carers are warmly welcomed in to school for a presentation and market place activity

About

About 3 million people work in health and social care. Health care roles include doctors, pharmacists, nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants, while social care roles include care assistants, occupational therapists, counsellors and administrators. Together, they account for nearly one in ten of all paid jobs in the UK. Developing an understanding of both the scope and scale of the Health and Social Care sector is paramount in the delivery of the course; ensuring that students are well prepared and passionate about a career in the sector.

Personal Profile

  • To prepare for carrying out a role in the Health and Social Care sector
  • To develop the skills, and prepare for progression onto higher level qualifications in the Health and Social Care, and related, sectors
  • To develop an understanding of how individuals grow and develop over the course of their life, from infancy to old age, to include; physical, intellectual, emotional and social development, and the different factors that may affect them.
  • To develop an understanding of how individuals are affected by major life events, such as marriage, parenthood or moving house, and how people adapt to these changes, as well as the types and sources of support that can help them
  • To develop transferable skills, such as written communication skills, which will support progression to Level 2 or 3 vocational or academic.
  • To explore practically, health and social care services and how they meet the needs of real service users.
  • To develop skills in applying care values that are common across the sector (some of which are transferable to other sectors that involve interactions with clients or customers).
  • To develop an understanding of the factors that affect health and wellbeing, learning about physiological and lifestyle indicators, and how to design a health and wellbeing improvement plan
  • To understand the factors that can have a positive or negative influence on a person’s health and wellbeing.
  • Be able to interpret physiological and lifestyle indicators, and what they mean for someone’s state of health.
  • Design an appropriate plan for improving someone’s health and wellbeing, including short- and long-term targets.
  • To understand the difficulties an individual may face when trying to make these changes.
  • To develop skills in analysing information and communicating for a specific purpose; develop the ability to interpret lifestyle and physiological data to explain clearly, and in detail, factors that could potentially affect an individual’s current and future physical health

Destinations

By completing this Level 2 Health and Social Care course you will be able to access the Health and Social Care Level 3 courses (equivalent to A Level) and then progress onto degree level courses, apprenticeships, further training courses or employment. It is no exaggeration to say that there are hundreds of potential career pathways in the Health and Social Care sector.
