As a school we have a statutory and moral duty to provide students in all years a careers education, information, advice and guidance. Guidance takes place within the Personal Development curriculum with support from, not only Form Tutors and their Heads of Year, but also all Heads of Department and their Curriculum team via their schemes of work which include information given to all students about possible careers in their subject areas.
One to one interviews are allocated to groups of students with an independent advisor from Ideas4Careers who visits school once a week. Please liaise with Mrs C Hellend-Carr if you would like to have an interview, otherwise all students will be scheduled for an interview so that each young person has at least one interview with a careers adviser by the age of 16. Interview slots are booked on a weekly basis and last 40 minutes.
What do personal career guidance meeting with Ideas4Careers aim to achieve?
Through professional careers guidance, we help students discover their strengths, explore opportunities and build confidence in planning their next steps, whether that’s further education, higher education, training, apprenticeships or employment. As members of Career Development Institute, we abide by their Code of Ethics meaning every student has high quality guidance.
Careers preparation, called Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is taught to all years within the school.
We continually assess the impact of the careers programme through such things as student voice, statistical analysis of work experience placements and NEET figures. From our 2023 cohort, 100% of our students went onto Full Time Education or Apprenticeships, providing evidence that our students leave us equipped with the skills and knowledge for future learning and employment.
